Text Box: Quietly nestled away off the A16 between Utterby and Fulstow lies Covenham.
 
The village is subtly’ spilt’ in two halves,
Covenham St Bartholomew.

The divide is because of the village's two churches
Saint Mary's and Saint Bartholomew Which stand 200 yards from each other.
     
Covenham means 'Community' or 'convent' and is mentioned in the Domesday Book.
The history of the village dates back to soon after William the Conqueror.
 
The winding country lanes are full of beautiful old properties and quaint country cottages.
 
The national press descended on Covenham in 1986 to investigate the sale of the redundant 13th century St Bartholomew's Church.
 
An American wanted to buy it and ship it off to Corona del Mar in Orange County.
It was going to be dismantled stone by stone but the deal eventually fell through, which was a relief to villagers.
 
The village boasts two wonderful pubs, the
Mill House; which was once the village bakery, and The New Plough Inn.
 
The village shop closed a few years ago and there is no school, but the simplicity of Covenham is what residents find most appealing.
 
Pete West, 70, the longest standing
resident, has lived there all his life
 and still lives in the house he was
 born in.
 



Pete is an active member of the community and
Until recently served on the parish council.
He is  still a member of the Jubilee Committee, which organises a number of village activities including galas, auctions and the village's Christmas tree.  
Pete is a big Fund raiser  of the Louth Hospice and  Macmillan cancer charity  and  he’s also the Quizmaster of the quiz in the local pub .
Pete Said: "Some people who live in Covenham just want to go to work and come home and shut their door. Others want to get involved in the village social life.
"I like it here, its home and it's what I'm used to.
 
"It's good when newcomers move in because they think of new ideas for the village and it keeps things moving."
 
 
Slowly a younger generation is moving into Covenham, which will balance out the village’s predominantly older community and will help to keep the heart of the village alive.
